किसी ने देवी देवताओं के नाम पर अपने शहर का नाम रखा तो किसी ने पीर पैगंबर के नाम पर…किसी ने राजा के नाम पर तो किसी ने खुद अपने नाम पर…मगर यहां एक ऐसा शहर भी है जो इमारत के नाम पर बसाया गया है…वह भी दरिया के निकट …एक सुंदर शहर, प्यारा और रमणीक शहर…बंगला…जिस का नाम आज भी बुजुर्ग बंगला ही पुकारते हैं…हैरानी इस बात की भी है कि यह शहर पहले कोई गांव नहीं था…न ही किसी राजा महाराजा और देवी देवता या पीर फकीर के नाम पर बसा है…सीधे ही शहर आस्तित्व में आया है।

      आज से करीब 645 साल पहले इब्बन बत्तूता यह बात बता चुके हैं कि अगर सतलुज दरिया के किनारे कोई शहर बसाया जाता है तो वह शहर बड़ा रमणीक होगा…आज यह शहर रमणीक है…जिसकी महिमा दूर दराज तक है…समय की सरकारें व सियासत अगर इस शहर पर कुल्हाड़ी न चलाती तो आज इस शहर को देखने के लिए दूरदराज से लोग आते…

       यह एक ऐसा शहर है, जहां से भारत शुरू होता है…एक समय था, जब यह मौजूदा राज्य हरियाणा के जिला सिरसा की तसहील थी और इसकी एक सीमा राजस्थान के शहर बीकानेर व एक सीमा पाकिस्तान के शहर हवेली तक लगती थी, फिर यह जिला फिरोजपुर की तहसील बनी…अब यह खुद जिला है।

        इमारत के नाम पर बसा यह शहर बंगला (फाजिल्का)ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों ने बड़ी सूझबूझ से बनाया था। पहली बात, यह बंगला सुंदर और मनमोहक बाधा झील के किनारे बनाया गया, ब्रिटिश अधिकारी जानते थे कि बंगला शहर के बीचोबीच नहीं है और शहर बंगले के दूसरी तरफ नहीं बढ़ेगा…इसलिए यहां शहर के बीचोबीच क्लॉक टावर बनवाया गया…जिस तरफ भी जाना हो…जिस शहर में भी जाना हो तो वहां से हर तरफ सडक़ निकलती हैं…(शेष अगले ब्लॉग में)
