भूल गए कि याद है वो गब्बर सिंह, जिसकी दहशत कई गांवों में फैली हुई थी। जब भी कोई बच्चा रोता था तो उसकी मां उसे कहती थी कि सो जा, नहीं तो गब्बर ङ्क्षसह आ जाएगा। याद है न सभी को गब्बर सिंह की दहशत . . . यह फिल्म शोले में था जो 1975 में बनी थी. . . ऐसा ही माड़े खां था, लेकिन वो डकैत नहीं, सिर्फ चोर था. . वो भी अकेला. . .सतलुज दरिया किनारे उसका गांव था दोना सिकंदरी . . . पुलिस में उसकी पूरी दहशत थी . . . उसका दोस्त फाजिल्का मुहम्मदन थाने में दरोगा था और ब्रिटिश अधिकारियों ने उसके दोस्त जहान खां की डयूटी लगा दी कि वह माड़े खां को पकड़े …बचपन के दोस्त थे . . जहान खां ने दोस्त को पकडऩे की बजाए दरोगा की नौकरी से इस्तीफा दे दिया . . . माड़े खां जब दो चार दरोगों के हाथ न आया तो उसे पकडऩे के लिए 12 दरोगों की डयूटी लगा दी गई। कुछ दिन बाद माड़े खां पकड़ा गया. . . उसे थाने लाया गया . . पीटा गया. . . माड़े खां बोला . . जितन मर्जी पीट लेना . . . लेकिन मुझे कोई अपशब्द न बोलना . . . वो पिटता रहा, चोरी की बात न कबूली . . . दरोगा बोला, उल्टा लटका दो साले चोर को. . . बस फिर क्या था. . .दरोगे पर टूट पड़ा . . .पुलिस ने उसे घोड़े के पीछे बांधकर घसीटना शुरू कर दिया . . . किसी तरह वह भाग निकला . . . पुलिस ने उस पर गोलियां चलाई . . . पीठ पर गोली लगी . . . इससे पहले कि दूसरी गोली लगती, माड़े खां ने सतलुज दरिया में छलांग लगा दी . . . पुलिस दो दिन तक उसे ढूंढ़ती रही . . . तीसरे दिन उसका शव दरिया के पास झाडिय़ों में मिला . . . फिर भी पुलिस ने उस पर कई गोलियां चलाई . . . जब कोई हरकत न हुई तो उसकी लाश को उठाया गया . . . अगर हाकम सिंह (जिसने यह बताया) की बात माने तो भारत विभाजन तक किसी दरोगे ने चोर डाकू को गाली नहीं निकाली थी . . . , लेकिन आज कई ऐसे भी पुलिस वाले हैं जो अपशब्द के बिना बात ही नहीं करते . . . शायद यही कारण है कि पुलिस और आम लोगों के बीच कुछ दूरियां हैं . . . जिन्हें खत्म करने की जरूरत है।
